What to Eat Wednesday but on Thursday, Señor Veggie

In the last year I've been down to San Antonio twice. They have two fully vegan restaurants. I wish Minneapolis did as well. Anyway, we had gone to Green Vegetarian to find them unexpectedly closed. There was a woman there who sent us over to Senor Veggie. We were on our way to the Gulf Coast and wanted to have a nice meal before hitting the road. Neither of us had found this place yet and I am so glad we went. The food was delicious- especially the empanadas. I really could have eaten ten of them. The place was rather perfectly colored in the sense it was very bright orange and yellow with green. Like vegetables. Hehehe. Anyway, when I go back to San Antonio I will certainly seek this place out again. I always love having Mexican food down South. I love the Midwest but nowhere I've been around these parts has any comparsion.

I stayed somewhere fancy...

As we've been traveling the last few years we've used Airbnb a lot to find places to stay. It has worked pretty great for the most part. They are nice places and in good locations. However, on a recent trip to San Antonio, Texas I got to stay in a resort and even spend half a day at a spa there. It was quite fancy for me. There was a huge pool and a big veranda we went out on every night and even napped on. The staff was very friendly and helpful. You have to drive to get around Texas, there's no two ways about it. So being able to get good directions is pretty important. The Eilan Hotel seems to be pretty new and it was not super busy when we checked in on Tuesday but as the weekend came it became full of life. There is also residency on the grounds so there was a fair amount of kids in the evening which was bit a of surprise. The woman who did my facial even helped me solve a skincare mystery which I am very grateful for....

Austin City Limits

Some snaps from around Austin, Texas from my visit there about 6 weeks ago.

Thursday's Times Past, Seattle

OK-the title is silly but it occurred to me that I do not like the phrase Throwback Thursday. But I do like the idea of sharing past experiences. San Diego Comic Con is happening this weekend and I am not at it. I have never been in attendance despite the fact that I have been a geek for quite some time now. It did get me thinking on some of my favorite Geeky Experiences and I was reminded of how much fun I had at the EMP Museum in Seattle some years ago. I wasn't allowed to take pictures inside but WOW it's a cool place(though at the time was notably lacking in Firefly pieces). I also ate tons of great vegan food such as at Cyber Dogs. Seattle is quite beautiful and I was there in December. It was funny how many of the residents were complaining about the 50 degree weather and back in Minnesota it was below freezing most days. It was a nice break for me to say the least. Also happy making=the amazing number of used bookstores.

I mean seriously, the museum was filled with stuff from Bladerunner. It was awesome.

What To Eat Wednesday, Square Cafe

As with most places I've been, the hardest meal of the day to find vegan was breakfast. Often when traveling we'll just go to a grocery store and get breakfast things since this is made easier by the prevalence of kitchens in hotels and through airbnb. But there's usually one or two places that offer an option or two. In Pittsburgh, the one place we found was Square Cafe. They had one vegan breakfast that you could customize a bit. The food was good and the place was really busy. Obviously a locals place. One big downfall was the price. Two meals and just water was $35. That's pretty spendy.

They had a vegan scramble with asparagus. You could also get it in a chorizo version.

Hillman Hall of Minerals and Gems

I suppose it comes with the love of jewelry and making things to be terribly fond of geology. Nestled in between the main buildings of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and the Carnegie Museum of Art sits the Hillman Hall of Minerals and Gems. It is a place filled with natural wonders created by nothing other than nature and her whims. I spent a good long time in here as most people just breezed through on their way to the main museums. I do not understand how one can ignore such beauty. Especially imagining it to be placed in something to wear about your head and neck. :o)

Snippets of a Dream

I'm going to post a few pictures from my vacation I just took. I will be back later with lots of pictures and posts and info about everything!
